As someone just newly diagnosed....I was wondering how common it is for GP to get worse overtime? Or do you find it's mostly flare ups that come and go?

Alice, Every person with Gastroparesis has different experiences, no two cases are really the same.
When it comes to the progression of the condition it all depends on the root cause (ie- diabetes, post viral, post surgical, idiopathic) any other health conditions that complicate matters (GERD, IBS, food intolerances... etc) and success in dietary changes and medication to control symptoms.
According to the NIH most GP cases do have flare ups and calmer times but it is important to remember that this condition has no cure at this time and you will have to be ever vigilent to manage your walk with GP. For almost all sufferers it does get worse over time but we can slow the progression down by avoiding the things that can cause a flare and being our own best advocate when it comes to our Dr's.
You can check out the link to Dr's that specialize in GP on in the Medical Link section because the first step is to find a Dr that is familure with GP and it's treatment as well as one that understands the impact it has on every day life.
Remember... just because on average GP can get worse over time does not mean that yours will... so little is known about this Common condition that there are many things we just don't know.
