I have Gastroparesis (I am 41) and it was not until recently that it was diagnosed even thought I have been suffering from the symptoms for more than half my life.
I have two children, one who does not show any signs and one that makes me wonder.
My son has always had a 'sensitive stomach' and as a child would complain that his 'waist' hurt. Not his stomach, not his abdomen but everywhere his waistband on his pants touched.
He misses about 10 days a year from school because he would be up all night getting sick and often he will eat very little and swiftly say he was full. As a child he would be told to 'clean your plate' as most children are told but more often than not the plate would never be emptied.
My son is now 17 and I have brought up the idea of having him tested for Gastroparesis, but my question is... does anyone have it running in their families?
I hope that his pediatrician listens and tests my son, if not I will find another doctor that will... I know what it was like to live for so long with the condition unrecognized and I do not want that for my son, but looking back he has already been living a good portion of his life with this. He always had trouble keeping formula down even though he "thrived" and it would take very little as a toddler to make him throw up... if he cried he threw up. This is just NOT normal.
